TravelCenters of America, the nation’s largest publicly-traded full-service travel center network, has announced a new partnership with Electrify America, the largest DC open fast-charging network in the states, planning to offer electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at select TA locations.

Currently, the collaboration intends on installing approximately 1,000 individual chargers at 200 locations along major highways over the next five years. The first of these stations are expected to roll out in 2023.

TravelCenters of America (TA) will purchase these DC fast-charging stations from Electrify America, which will be in charge of installing, operating and maintaining them over the years to come. Electrify America will manage the entire design and development process, as well as the acquisition of the proper installation permits, serving out warranty-related work, and offering 24/7 support. Once up and running, customers will be able to pay for access to these chargers through the Electrify America app, recharging at rates up to 350kW on compatible vehicles.

“TA’s large locations with expansive amenities are attractive to EV motorists and we are committed to expanding our EV charging infrastructure to accommodate this growing number of EV drivers over time,” said Jon Pertchik, Chief Executive Officer of TravelCenters of America. “Our agreement with best-in-class Electrify America provides an unmatched offering of excellence in locations, service, support.”

As more EVs end up on the byways, this level of infrastructure is desperately needed. The combination of amenities offered at TA locations– like Wi-Fi access and modern rest stops– combined with the high-speed infrastructure conjured up by Electrify America will be a blessing for many EV adopters itching to get on the road for some longer hauls.
