Volvo is producing a limited quantity of their S60 sedan in a special “Black Edition” configuration for the 2022 model year.

The S60 Black Edition will be capped at “fewer than 450 vehicles being produced for model year 2022,” slated to arrive in select dealerships this spring. It is unclear whether this edition will return for following model years.

The Black Edition, as the name suggests, incorporates black accents, trims and badging on the S60, one of the most noticeable features being the high gloss black 19-inch wheels. The front grille is done in a similar finish, along with the Volvo badge spearheading the front fascia. The sides are contrasted by the aforementioned wheels and black window trim.

At the rear of the Black Edition are more high gloss badges, such as the Volvo wordmark, model name and motor designation. The vehicle’s tailpipes are darkened as well.

All of these bits contrast the available Crystal White Metallic paint quite nicely; however, stealthy consumers may opt for the Onyx Black Metallic lacquer to go full midnight. These opposites are the only two color options available on Black Edition vehicles.

The Black Edition package can be applied to the S60 Recharge plug-in hybrid model, as well as the Momentum and R-Design trims. Built at Volvo Cars’ plant in Ridgeville, South Carolina, the S60 Black Edition was designed specifically for the US market, and is expected to start around $40,000.
