Our success story this week takes us to North Aurora, Illinois for a stop at Alpha Baking Company, parent of S.Rosen’s and other popular baked-goods brands.

After years of looking for an alternative fuel to fir their daily delivery needs, Alpha recently purchases 22 propane-powered bread trucks for the Chicagoland deliveries. With the assistance of South Shore and Chicago Area clean cities, Alpha worked with Roush CleanTech to develop the first propane Ford E-450 stepvan.

“I applaud Alpha Baking and the ownership for having the vision and commitment to doing the right thing when it comes to powering or vehicles.”

Alpha’s propane stepvans will emit 2 million fewer pound of carbon dioxide over their lifetime. The company hopes to expand this initiative to their fleets in Wisconsin and Indiana as well. It’s a well-executed alt-fuel plan that shows this Chicago icon clearly “rises” to the occasion.
