Most of you know by now there’s a new Mustang in the stable; and it’s not only fully-electric, but it’s also an SUV. And while some of you hate this Mustang’s shape and mission already; for those that have kept an open mind, we now have more details on the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E.

For better or worse, Ford has included plenty of Mustang styling cues in the Mach-E; exaggerated rear quarters, long domed hood, and of course tri-bar tail lamps.

And as for the go-fast bits, GT Performance Editions output an estimated 459-horsepower and should hit 60 in the mid-3 second range.

"A few of us at MotorWeek have had the opportunity to take a ride in the all-new Ford Mustang Mach E. Most recently being at the Chicago Auto Show. Now, we might have missed the growl of the traditional Mustang, but the Mustang Mach E has plenty of kick for an exhilarating ride."

"In that vein, drive modes are labeled Whisper, Engage, and Unbridled. Yeah, not kidding. And it will be available in rear or all-wheel-drive."

There are both standard and extended range battery packs, with a target of at least 300-miles for the Extended Range version. Lots of new tech on display, in the form of next-generation SYNC with tablet-style 16-inch touchscreen.

"Now there’s one less reason to go to the dealer. Ford just announced that they’ll be able to do updates to the vehicle over the air as all Mach E’s can essentially be linked to them through the Cloud at all times. So privacy concerns aside, you can be rest assured that you’ll get all the latest and greatest software updates from Ford without you having to go out of your way to do it."

Elsewhere inside, there’s room for 5, and plenty of space for cargo; both in back, and up front where’s almost 5 cubic-ft. of drainable space, where apparently you will be storing drinks, shrimp, and wings. And if extra wing storage wasn’t good enough for you, best news of all the Mach-E will start around $44,000; and that’s before any tax credits.

Can’t get past the Mustang’s crossover shape? Well, Ford’s giving us all hope there’s much more electric Mustang to come, with this very traditional looking Cobra Jet 1400. Look for it at a drag strip near you!

We’ll have plenty more on the Mustang Mach-E, as well as all things Ford EV.
