Our next car may not qualify as a Roadmaster, but it is a very modern take on the venerable Buick brand. The 2013 Buick Verano Turbo is a boosted version of the brand’s popular compact sedan.

Styling, while definitely on the conservative side, is sporty enough to warrant some expectation of real power. GM has delivered, adding a turbocharged Ecotec 2.0 liter I4 for the new model year. With 250 horses on tap, a 40% gain, we sampled the six speed automatic and manual transmissions. Both delivered plenty of front drive power and the automatic was particularly smooth.

Steering and suspension are sport-tuned, stiffening up in twists, but keeping the comfort inherent to the Buick brand. Blind zone and rear cross traffic alert are standard on the Turbo, as are heated seats and steering wheel. So, if this is any indication of Buick’s future, we’ll gladly ride along. The 2013 Buick Verano Turbo starts at around $30,000.
