If wind in the hair fun is more to your liking, then Porsche’s early summer debut of the all-new Boxster and Boxster S Roadsters is perfectly timed. More visibly striking with stronger character lines and reduced body overhangs, the Boxster -dare we say it- finally looks like a proper Porsche, and even favors the awesome Carrera GT in profile thanks to deeply scooped doors and a bobbed rear end. Wheelbase and track have been stretched to improve driving dynamics. Weight undercuts the outgoing model thanks to a new aluminum body structure, leading to a boost in performance and fuel economy.

A smaller 2.7 liter flat six provides base Boxster horsepower of 265, up 10, while achieving 32 miles per gallon highway when equipped with the optional PDK automatic gearbox. Boxster S retains its 3.4 liter six, with a bump of 5 horses to 315. We sampled the Boxster S on the street, through the autocross course and around the twisties at Alabama’s Barber Motorsports Park and were thrilled by the new electro-mechanical power steering and overall grip and agility of the chassis while marveling at the well-mannered ride. Boxster prices start at about $50,500 while the Boxster S goes for almost $62,000.
