2017 Lamborghini Aventador S
An elite few cars truly live in the world of exotic performance. The 2017 Lamborghini Aventador S is certainly one of them. The Aventador lineage first greeted the world at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. We were so wowed by it, we named the Aventador LP 750-4 SV a MotorWeek 2016 Best Dream Machine.
Every modification to this latest effort actually improves performance. A more aggressive nose and longer front splitter improve downforce by over 130-percent. Around back, an active rear wing and finned black diffuser add to the swift ride. Three single exhaust outlets signal new, lighter pipes.
The 6.5-liter V-12 power plant ups the ante by 40…to 740-horsepower. Engineers added 150 more rpm too, now maxing out at 8,500. And, all that force is still harnessed by a 7-speed single clutch, semi-automatic gearbox.
The Aventador S adds new four-wheel steering, a first for a Lambo production car. On our first drive in Spain, this supercar more than lived up to the courage of the bull that inspired its name.
ZACH MASKELL: “What that all wheel steering will do is allow the rear wheels to turn the opposite direction at slower speeds and the same direction at higher speeds. That makes the car a lot more stable and let me tell you going around turns it is super agile.”
The Aventador S adds a new EGO drive mode to go along with STRADA, SPORT, and CORSA. Aptly named, EGO lets the driver choose traction, steering and suspension settings from the other three modes for a one of a kind driving experience.
