The 2017 Lexus GS 200t joins the global trend of having a 2.0-liter turbocharged four standard in a middle-level luxury-sport sedan. And, by doing so, offers Lexus fanciers something of a bargain.

Output is 241 horsepower. That’s 60 less than the six-cylinder GS 350, yet we think it is more than adequate for most driving duties. Note that the 200t is rear drive only, and it’s hooked to a smooth eight-speed sequential shift automatic with paddle shifters and four driving modes.

The Lexus Safety System is now standard, giving all GS drivers tools like Full Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, and a Pre-Collision System.

Navigation is also standard on this entry level GS, complete with 12-point-3-inch high-resolution screen.

Outside the 200t shares the same handsome looks of pricier GS’s. Up front, Bi-LED headlights border a spindle grille trimmed with satin chrome. Around back are recently freshened tail lights and rear fascia.

The 2017 Lexus GS 200t is in dealerships now, starting just over $46,000, or about four grand less than a GS 350.
