We consider the Mercedes-Benz E-class sedan one of the finest luxury 4-doors money can buy. But, the chassis takes on an even sportier form for 2018 as the new E400 Coupe.

With a heritage going back almost 50-years to the 1968 "Stroke Eight" Coupe, this new mid-size two-door resides on Benz’s new, 5-generation E-Class architecture; one we have endlessly raved about for the sedan. Likewise, that now means a coupe that is longer and wider with a heftier feel.

The E400’s 3-liter bi-turbo V6 pumps out 329 horsepower.  Of course rear drive is standard, but we chose a 4MATIC All-Wheel Drive model for our first cruise through Canada’s British Columbia.

GREG CARLOSS: “It is pretty good on power.  it’s not exactly a brute force monster.  If you need to pass there is more than enough to do so. It goes through a 9-speed automatic transmission which I find reacts really well in a lot of situations”

Inside, the coupe shares the clean design and exquisite materials of its sedan sibling.  One notable difference: air vents inspired by turbine blades. The 2018 Mercedes-Benz E400 is at dealers now starting at about $59,000.
