While most carmakers are satisfied offering one utility vehicle per size class, the competitive spirit at BMW requires two… one practical… one more eye catching. The latter is the 2019 BMW X4.

The second gen of this “sports activity coupe” is longer, wider, and just a touch lower.

Badging numbers also change …  xDrive28i becomes xDrive30i as horsepower increases by 8 to 248 from the 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo I-4. In not-quite-full “M”… the 3.0-liter M Performance TwinPower Turbo I-6 M40i releases 355-horsepower. Both engine pour out early torque moving this stylish ute with ease. An 8-speed automatic precisely handles transmission duties.

Rear-biased xDrive holds on super tight. On winding back roads, there’s plenty of stiffness, agility, and very little body roll. That’s thanks to the wider rear track, a reworked chassis, and a choice of “M” tweaked suspensions with variable sport steering.

As in the latest X3, interior materials are excellent with a driver centric layout. A long list of active safety features are standard. The 2019 BMW X4 is on sale now starting just over $50,000.
