2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE
Another luxury ute, the Mercedes-Benz GLE, has always been the brand’s bread and butter. Originally known as the M class, the mid-size 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE signals an all-new fourth generation. And, it takes a significant step up in virtually all areas.
The new GLE class is roomier inside, has a sophisticated, also new, all-wheel drive system, and boasts the highest level of technology yet for a Mercedes utility, like the mbux personal assistant, and the pair of wide-screens sweeping through their brand.
Besides a suite of semi-autonomous driving features, the new GLE feature a 48-volt electrical system. It powers a new adjustable suspension called e-active body control… that allows individual settings for each wheel. We checked it all out on roads near San Antonio, Texas.
“It’s spacious and comfortable inside with a third row seat available on request.”
It’s about time Mercedes added that option. The GLE’s main competitor, the BMW X-5, has offered a third row for about a decade.
The top GLE 450 4Matic is propelled by a robust 362-horsepower 3-liter inline-6 turbo that includes an integral electric motor system…EQ boost. The base engine in the GLE 350 and 4matic model… is a 2-liter inline-4 turbo with a none too shabby 255-horsepower. Both hook up to a smooth shifting 9g-tronic automatic.
The new GLE shows that Mercedes aims to pull out all the stops to make its premium SUVs just as appealing as its premium cars. The Alabama made 2020 GLE arrives in the spring starting at under $54,000.
