When you’re thinking of high performance luxury, AMG certainly comes to mind. And this week’s mindful Quick Spin is of the 2021 Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S.

Adding the number 63 to its midsize E-class based crossover’s name, means there’s a twin-turbo V8 under the hood. And the letter S that follows, means it’s the high output version of that 4.0-liter, at 603-horsepower.

On top of that, it also has a 48-volt light-hybrid electrical system to deliver an extra 184 lb-ft. of torque. Now, that’s the kind of overkill we like.

"If you’ve been shopping GLE then you’re no stranger to the finer things in life, and if you’re curious about the AMG then you’re no stranger to the finest things in life. In that regard it is fantastic, the power is right there, all you simply do is dial it up to Sport or Sport plus and your throttle response crisps up, your exhaust really gets gnarly and mouthy, and a good bit of heft is added to the wheel too."

You’ll get all of the usual added AMG elements both inside and out, as well as an AMG-tuned suspension, steering, and 9-speed automatic transmission.

Hey, and it’s not all about just street performance either. Sand and Trail are two new drive modes added to make this GLE even more capable off-road.

Standard AMG Ride Control air suspension, can pump up ride height over 2-inches, or lower it by half an inch.

No official word on pricing yet, but expect the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S to be priced somewhere equal to its elevated performance status, when it arrives in dealers this fall.
