While car-based crossover utility vehicles are decidedly more efficient and practical, it seems that many red-blooded Americans just can’t do without a full-size, truck-framed, big boat and trailer towing SUV, to mosey around town in. And no-one know this market better than General Motors.

For 2015 their full-size SUV lineup is all new, starting with the high volume Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban. Following the new Silverado pickup, power is from their also-new 5.3 liter V8, good for 355 horsepower, with a trailering limit of over 8,000 pounds.

Styling and functionality is where many of the improvements reside, with sheet metal cleaned up and modernized, including available HID headlights and LED runners.

Inside, second row legroom stretches two inches, with flat-folding second and third rows and an optional one-touch folding system.

Ride comfort notches way up, especially with the available Magnetic Ride Control in top LTZ trim. And inlayed doors keep things whisper quiet.

Loose item storage is found in the cavernous center console, or behind the new 8 inch LCD infotainment screen with Chevy MyLink. In back, under floor compartments hide things from curious eyes.

The slightly more upscale GMC Yukon and Yukon XL get a similar makeover, with the same powertrain under more distinctive premium sheet metal. Also available are 20 and 22 inch wheels, and a posher interior treatment.

Top tier Denali models, both Yukon and Yukon XL, offer an exclusive 6.2 liter, 420 horsepower V8, a copious helping of chrome, and an Active Noise Cancelation system for even more isolation at speed.

Pricing for these big guys begin around $46,000 at Chevy, with a small premium for GMCs. Denali pricing starts near $64,000.
