It seemed like this vehicle would never happen, but it finally has...it’s the 2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat. Yes, FCA has shoehorned their epic 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine into just about everything except a Durango...until now.

710-horsepower, 645 lb-ft. of torque, and with an 8-speed automatic transmission, the Durango Hellcat hits 60 in 3.5-seconds; and destroys the ¼-mile in 11.5.

"Dodge loves shoving big engines into things and I love that about them. What I like even more though is that they do it without sacrificing capability of the vehicle. Oh, you need a 700-horsepower SUV? Okay. Oh, you need all-wheel-drive? No problem. Oh, you have to tow 8,700-lbs? No problem there either."

And for those of you that like to turn the steering wheel while going fast, it’s 1.5-seconds quicker than the SRT 392 around Dodge’s 2.1-mile road course test track.

"Clearly, getting up to speed will not be a problem in the Durango Hellcat, and like in the Jeep TrackHawk, it’ll be easy to forget about all that mass moving with you. Luckily, it’s fitted with 6 piston brembo brakes and nearly 16-inch rotors up front. Which should be plenty of whoa for all that go."

Durango news is not all horsepower and hijinks either.  All ’21 Durangos will get a new interior that’s a lot closer to the Challenger in look and feel.

And an upgraded exterior, with Charger Widebody inspired design cues; as well as new trim and wheel options.

The 2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat is a 1-year only deal; so if this is your kind of utility insanity, better pony up the bucks as soon as possible, though FCA hasn’t given specifics on how much just yet.

We’ll have more on the 2021 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat soon. Until then, stay safe and keep it locked on MotorWeek.
