Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast has officially exported their first batch of EVs.

The shipment includes 999 VF 8 electric SUVs, all of which are headed to the United States. They will make landfall in California approximately 20 days after departing from the MPC Port in Haiphong, Vietnam.

The first US VinFast customers can expect to receive their cars by the end of December 2022. After this shipment, more exports will begin with more VF 8’s being shipped to Canada and Europe in early 2023. Eventually, the VF 8 and VF 9 will begin production at VinFast’s assembly plant in North Carolina.

We had a chance to get a little more up close with the VinFast brand at this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show, including the US unveiling of the smaller VF 6 and VF 7 utilities. We’re excited to see what this new manufacturer can bring to the US market, and we’ll be sure to cover it all right here on MotorWeek.
